Without a doubt, Texas Madrone trees are one of the most interesting native trees we have in Central Texas. The pictures below were taken in late June when the bark peels off going from a rusty color to a mustard. At the same time berries are forming on the tree and will be ripe around December.
In addition to large trees, we have a unique area on the ranch that is covered with very young Madrone trees.
All young threes ranging from 3 to 8 years old. All of these young trees grow in dense cedar breaks. We have not cleared the cedar in this part of the ranch to preserve this unique Madrone nursery.
